Terminal 4 & future plans

Rome Fiumicino Airport — Terminal 4 & future plans

Fiumicino’s future development is organised around a new Terminal 4 and a wider expansion of the airport. Future plans include a new Terminal 4, an expansion of the runways, and new buildings for car parking, services and airport facilities.

What is planned

  • Terminal 4 — a new passenger terminal to add capacity beyond the current Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
  • Runway expansion — works to widen the airfield’s operating capability.
  • Parking, services and facilities — new buildings for car parks, services and airport facilities.

Why it is needed

Fiumicino has grown steadily: 49.2 million passengers in 2024 (+38.1% on 2023) and more than 50 million in 2025, making it Italy’s busiest airport and the 40th busiest in the world. Today’s two terminals already process that traffic, and Terminal 4 is the next step.
