Departures at Rome Fiumicino Airport
Domestic and Schengen flights depart from Terminal 1 (A gates), extra-Schengen and intercontinental flights from Terminal 3 (E gates). Plan your terminal, allow time for the motorway, and book a security slot if you want to move faster.
Which terminal?
- Terminal 1 — domestic flights and Schengen destinations (gates A1–A83).
- Terminal 3 — extra-Schengen and intercontinental flights (gates E1–E61; satellite E31–E44 by SkyBridge).
- Check the terminal on your boarding pass, your airline’s messages and the airport screens.
The departure flow
- 1. Check-in and baggage drop — in your terminal’s departures hall (or online / self-service).
- 2. Security screening — real-time wait times are published per terminal; the Fast Track and Qpass services let you skip or book the line.
- 3. Passport control — for non-Schengen flights, before the gate area.
- 4. Boarding — follow signage; for satellite gates E31–E44 take the SkyBridge train.
Good to know
- The airport handles more than 50 million passengers a year — allow generous time at peak periods.
- Useful services before security: eSIM, Wi-Fi, baggage services, lost property, family services and special assistance (see airport services).
- Rome has a second airport: Ciampino (CIA) handles many low-cost flights — check which one your ticket names.
Terminal assignments can change — re-check the airport screens once you are on site.
